We all know that working abroad entails a lot of hardship and sacrifices, but due to poverty and lack of a decent source of income in the country, most of our kababayans would still gamble their chances to work abroad just to provide the needs of their family.
But sadly, not all aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) have good luck when it comes to landing at the hands of a kind and generous employer, most of them experience cruelty and maltreatment at the hands of these foreign employers who look at them as slaves.
This is the ordeal faced by a Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based OFW who recently seeks the help of veteran broadcaster Ben Tulfo for her immediate rescue since she is already in double pain for being ill and being refused by her employer to go back home.
In a video message, domestic helper Carmelita Dasig said that she is already staying at a custodial center but could not go back to the Philippines as soon as possible since her employer confiscated her passport.
“Ayaw po akong pauwiin ng amo ko, pilit po akong sinusundo dito! Sana makauwi po ako at matulungan niyo ako!” Carmelita said.
Apparently, Carmelita has been complaining about bleeding for an unknown reason for the past two months, when she requested her employer to go back home, the cruel employer got mad and even confiscated both her mobile phone and passport.
What’s worse is her employment agency in the Philippines is no longer operational making it harder for her to process her flight back to the Philippines.
According to Lorenzo Espiritu – Carmelita’s brother, her OFW sister is now very weak and even started entrusting her kids to him as if bidding goodbye and losing her hopes to be home safely.
Because of this, Tulfo coordinated with Marissa Cruz of Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) who vowed to help Carmelita and take her home in one piece.
“Don’t worry sir kahit walang passport si OFW ay magagawan natin ng paraan,” Cruz said.
She then invited the OFWs relative to drop by their office for the immediate process of the repatriation of Carmelita.
Tulfo advised Lorenzo to just relax and assured him that Carmelita will be safely rescued in just a few days.
