Looks like our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal got it all wrong when he said that the youth is the hope of our nation if we will base it on this viral video showing how street children treated some passenger in a public utility jeepney.
Earlier this week, a video of a group of teenagers who looks like robbing a public jeepney along Macapagal Avenue went viral on social media.
According to Facebook user Victor Padilla Bagatcholon III who uploaded the first video, he witnessed the incident while on board a taxi and traversing the said road at around 5:50 in the afternoon. Victor said that about 10 youngsters confronted some jeepney passengers and seized some of their belongings including a small pack of junk food.
In the video, it could be seen that the youngsters are even shouting and arguing with some passengers inside the jeepney while one of them even pulled the hair of one of the passengers.
“Pumasok yung mga nagpapalimos na bata sa loob ng jeep. Mga 12-15 sila sa grupo. Biglang may commotion sa loob ng jeep. May mga nakuhang gamit yung mga bata at nadamay pa yung isang nanaya na may kasamang anak,” Victor wrote.

The following day, one of the passengers inside the said jeepney shared her side of the story and also posted several video clips of the incident. According to Facebook user Vy Vyen Datul, the jeepney came from Mall of Asia and upon reaching a nearby stoplight several teenagers stormed the vehicle to snatch a passenger’s bag of junk food.
But when the junk food owner refused to surrender the food, the group in return slapped, punch,
She added that other passengers including herself could not do anything to help the victim since the jeepney driver stopped them to do so.
“Hindi namin matulungan yung mga batang kinakawawa. kasi sabi ng driver ng jeep pag ‘nakiaalam pa kayo jan, pag bumababa pa kayo jan kayo ang ma bubugbug. Marami mgayan’ so wala kaming magawa kundi panuorin nalang sila,” Vy Vyen narrated.
She then advised other netizens that if they were caught in the same situation, just surrender whatever the culprits want instead of exchanging physical violence with them.
