In the viral footage, an officer at the security scanning area could be seen blocking the congressman in order to subject him to physical frisking but Bertiz disregarded the officer and went on to show his ID.
According to reports, this identification card is an all-access ID given as a privilege to personalities including government officials like Bertiz.
After retrieving his stuff, Bertiz went back to the security officer to once again show his ID and then went on harassing the officer to give his own ID instead. He then grabbed the officer’s ID and went on inside the airport.

The video went viral on social media and reached the attention of veteran broadcaster Raffy Tulfo who immediately interviewed Bertiz to know his side of the story.
During the interview with Tulfo, Bertiz initially apologized for his actions and calmly explained what happened in the viral video.
“Taos puso po akong humihingi ng paumanhin kung mayroon man akong pagkakamali at inasal na hindi maganda bilang isang empleyado ng gobyerno dyan sa pagkakataon na ‘yan,” Bertiz said.
According to Bertiz, he already submitted himself and his other belongings in the security scanner and he thought that when the scanner did not beep any signal, he is no longer required to remove his footwear and be subject to physical inspection.
The congressman also claims that he grabbed the officer’s ID as he is planning to file a report against the officer after seeing some Chinese-looking passengers escorted by NAIA staff who were also not subjected to physical search.
But Tulfo slammed him and said that as a public officer and OFW representative who frequently flies in and out of the country, he must know the rules beforehand even must do the right thing even if he saw other passengers not following the protocol.
But Bertiz humbled himself by admitting his fault and explaining that he actually regrets his action which according to him is probably brought by lack of sleep due to his early flight.
“Hindi naman po ako abusadong tao… pasensya na po kayo at patawad din po sa nangyari,” Bertiz said.
He also said that he already apologized to the officer through a formal written letter given to MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal and have recently issued a public apology for his uncalled for behavior.
Tulfo then suggested that if Bertiz is really serious and regrets his actions, he must propose the Congress to refuse to give an all-access card to congressmen like him in order to be fair with other passengers.
