Airports are utilized major establishments as they transport people in and out of the country, or transfer them from one province to another. And it is such a great thing to know that another airport was soon to be opened to be used by the public.
The Panglao Island International Airport, also known as the New Bohol International Airport, is soon to be made available to the public around the latter part of October or earlier of November.
And it is not just an ordinary airport. The New Bohol International Airport, dubbed as the “Green Gateway to the World,” is considered to be the first eco-airport in the Philippines. The 1/3 of the entire airport is reportedly built with solar powered roofing to minimize the consumption of electricity in their passenger terminal building. It also uses natural ventilation.
In an interview back in August with Department of Transportation (DoTr) secretary, Arthur P. Tugade, said that everyone should be excited about Panglao airport.
“I am very excited. This is the kind of airport that we should be building, an airport that has regard for the environment and the future generations,” Tugade said.

According to the sources, the airport could accommodate 2 million people every year.
This airport was said to replace the Tagbilaran Airport once it opens in November, simultaneously with the closure of the latter.
The New Bohol International Airport is close to Tagbilaran Airport which serves as the gateway to Panglao Island and the other parts of mainland Bohol for domestic air travelers, and one-hour flight away from the Mactan Cebu International Airport, a gateway to the Central Philippines for international tourists.
The Panglao Island is currently considered one of the most popular and fastest growing tourist destinations in the country. Along with the other alternative beach destinations, Panglao has been continuously promoted as part of an initiative to boost the country’s tourism, ever since the closure of Boracay for six months.
With its upcoming opening for commercial operations, the new airport is expected to help increase the number of visitors in Panglao Island. The island in itself attracts over 600,000 visitors every year but most of them are domestic tourists and only 1/3 of the total numbers are foreigners. With the new airport, the island of Panglao will become more accessible for the international tourists.
The airport will be built on a 230-hectare land with 13,000 square meter terminal which is capable of handling at least 7 aircrafts.
